These liquid flow meters incorporate a unique small strut technology which is unmatched in
measurement accuracy. They can be used to replace existing equipment or be incorporated into
new facilities providing years of reliable service for liquid applications.
Operating Principle
This vortex shedding unit works by transmitting an ultrasonic beam through the vortex pattern,
downstream from a small vortex strut (bluff bar). As the vortices travel through the beam, they
modulate its carrier wave. This signal is electronically processed which provides an exact reading
of flow rate. The number of vortices shed downstream per unit time is directly proportional to the
flow rate. Precise flow velocity is determined by counting the vortices. Other vortex flow meters
lack crucial sensitivity, because they can only detect vortices created by large, restrictive
obstructions. This diminishes important low-end performance. Only this design incorporates a
small strut, which offers minimal flow resistance for high accuracy over an extended range. Each
flow meter is individually calibrated to NIST traceable standards. And, with no moving parts, they
are trouble-free.
