The Watlow high temperature foil heater is designed for demanding applications requiring operating
temperatures up to 1100°F (595°C). The etched foil element is noted for its excellent circuit
pattern repeatability and superior heat transfer, which results from greater area coverage of the
element. The Watlow high temperature foil heater's etched foil elements deliver more heat and up
to twice the watt density of a wirewound element, providing longer heater life. Also, with etched foil
elements more complex heat distribution patterns can be formed than with other type elements.
The Watlow high temperature foil heater is only 0.030 inch (0.76 mm) thick and is insulated with a
mica sheet. The heater is fairly rigid and must be securely and uniformly clamped from both sides for
support and good heat transfer during operation. The low mass design of the Watlow high temperature
foil heater allows it to heat quickly while still yielding watt densities to 110 W/in2 (17 W/cm2) when
operating at 500°F (260°C). Watt density should decrease as temperature increases.
The Watlow high temperature foil heater can be used to apply heat to the most complex shapes and
geometries without sacrificing efficiency or dependability. With Watlow's customization capabilities, you
have the maximum amount of freedom when designing your equipment.
